Lune Croissanterie Book Review

Kouign-amann

I’m one of those crazy people that will spend three days making croissants at home. I just adore every aspect of it. The making, shaping, baking and of course, eating. I find baking so therapeutic and spending days labouring away on some croissant dough is my idea of heaven. I promise that all the effort is worth it when you take that first bite of crisp, buttery, flaky pastry.

As soon as Kate Reid’s book ‘Lune: Croissants all day all night’ was released, I knew it was a book I needed to adorn my foodie bookshelf. Little did I know just how magical this book is. Based on the items that decorate their many locations in Australia, you’ll be spoilt for choice.

Kate starts by laying out detailed instructions on how to make her delicious croissant pastry. I really appreciate the straight forward and precise instructions throughout (coming from a girl who loves to measure each croissant and cut.) From this, the world is your oyster. Each recipe in the book uses the same croissant dough and has recipes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I really appreciate the recipes in which the leftover or ‘scraps’ of pastry are used up in some equally beautiful recipes.

So, for anyone who hasn’t attempted croissants or laminated pastry at home, I thrust you in the direction of Lune and hope you have as much fun as I’m having baking my way through it. Even if it goes wrong, that much butter can never taste bad!
